Dear families,
During these uncertain times, it is very important to follow the recommendations we have been given from Saskatchewan’s Chief Medical Health Officer and from the offices of the Premier and the Ministry of Education. Our Saskatchewan Rivers School Division will also be providing updates. I encourage you to follow our school division on Facebook for updates. We are currently getting a Princess Margaret page on Facebook as well and should be up in a couple of days.
By now, our staff has reached out to you to see how you are doing, maybe talking to the students, and providing answers you may have. Please reach out to your teacher if you have any questions.
The learning that is happening in your home will be significantly different than what the students receive at school. We are asking that the students keep up with their reading, writing, and math. Teachers have supplied some supplementary learning packages for you. It is up to each family to decide how far they wish to take this learning. For the primary grades, letter and number recognition is very important and the more they read, or the more you read to them will be beneficial. For the middle years students, incorporating current events into stories, or journals will keep them on track. Writing is a key component at this level, so have your children do a little bit of writing each day. Incorporate day to day events into a learning opportunity: cooking, measuring, collecting information from news stories, researching animals, people, history etc. Have your child report to you what they did during the day and, of course, read every night.
As for progress and transitions while we move ahead, we all hope that we can continue to provide educational opportunities within the school. If this does happen, we will work quickly to get students back to school. However, if we are asked to stay home for a significant amount of time, all students will pass and move on to the next grade. The report card you received at the end of term 2 will become your June report card with a note mentioning it was due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Please stay close to family. Our human instincts require we have some social interaction with others. In our day, with technology, we can phone, text, facetime, or zoom with others. It is very important that children have these opportunities. Hopefully we can look back at this in a positive way and return to some kind of normalcy.
Take care! Stay safe!
Sincerely,
Mr. Art Feher
Principal
